Expressive Arts

We often experience emotions that cannot yet be described by words (common with early experiences). Expressing emotions through images can help us process them as well as facilitate our conscious understanding of them. Expressive arts draw out nonverbal communication, which allows the bubbling up or emergence of deep experiences that may need another, safer way to express than words allow. Arts provide a safe method of accessing and containing painful feelings by presenting them in metaphor, symbol, and image.

Art is a way of processing, and a softer way of relating. There are no rules to creativity or manifesting what is happening for a person in the moment. That freedom leads to insight, particularly if you have felt blocked in your expression of certain experiences. Exploration of imagery can touch us on a deep level, healing things for which we don’t have words and soothing deep unconscious pain or emotional distress that has yet to fully surface.

Therapeutic arts groups are periodically offered. Being in community while creating validates expression at a very deep level and gives us the opportunity to create deep bonds with others and ourselves. Please contact me at Meredith@meredithlindentherapy.com if you are interested in taking part in a therapeutic arts group.

A schedule of future groups will be noted here.
